Saw this in a couple of places and thought I'd try something similar.

The Stats:
8 SGA stories
140,000 words

Slightly more than last year, thanks to November's 50,000 words of SGA. I've got about 30K down on another story (with much, much more to go on that one), so while I did technically write it in 2011, it won't get counted till next year. :)

Hope you all enjoyed the stories! I always have fun writing them, but it is great to hear other people's reactions and comments. Keeps me motivated to continue writing! Sometimes in the middle of a story I think, "No one is even reading SGA stories anymore," then you all pop in and say hi, and I get all excited and start plotting the next adventure. To all my wonderful readers, hope you had a great holiday season and here's to an awesome 2012!

I did it! 50,482 words of SGA in November (and a bit of December). Wooo! That was much fun, and I'm super pleased with the stories I was able to knock off my to-do list.

Secret Santa - Done!
Jumper crash - Done!
Drowning one - Done!
Novel-lenght one - Okay, not even close to done, but I knew it wouldn't be finished this month. I got a really good chunk of it out of the way, though. I'm thrilled with that! I am now just under 35,000 words into it and the story is rolling. Lots of action ahead!

Part of this plan backfired on me however. Apparently all that writing is just breeding ground for new ideas, and my to-do list has a bunch more stuff on it. Sheesh! I hit a nice stopping place on the novel-length story tonight, so I will let that one sit for a bit while I go back and re-read my Secret Santa story. Once I get all the edits and rewrites on that one done, I can jump back into this novel! My guess is I'm a little less than halfway done with the first draft, which is exciting (and maybe it will turn into more of a novella than a novel, but that's okay).

Thanks to everyone for reading the stories I was able to post, and it's almost the holiday season!! That means a lot of great stories to come from a lot of great authors - my favorite time of year! :D

This is what I've learned about my writing habits. When I get off my normal day-to-day schedule, such as go on vacation over the holiday break, I write less not more. Actually, I tend to not write at all.

One day left of NaNo and I've still got about 12,000 words to write to hit the 50K mark. I'm bound and determined to hit 50K, though, so in honor of Thanksgiving vacations, I'm extending my NaNo for a week! I now have until December 7 to get my word count in. The current story is a longish one, and I don't think I'll be anywhere close to wrapping it up. I need to get my Secret Santa story all finalized, but then it's back to writing this story.

Here is the problem with writing a lot: it spawns all kinds of new ideas. I had this list of story ideas that I thought would get whittled down by this NaNo, and now I've got a new and growing list...

Title: Breathing Like a Drowning Man
Rating: PG13
Warning: Set very, very early season 1
Word Count: 5,500
Summary: A brush with danger at home teaches everyone they still have a lot to learn about their new lives on Atlantis.

A/N: There’s only a hint of story here. This has been simmering in the back of my mind for a few months now, after I’d read through all the Summer Shep HC prompts. Also, the spacing got all messed up when I went to post, but I think I've got it mostly fixed now. I switched to a more recent version of Word and I've got to sit down and figure out what's going on here one of these days...

Not betaed, so all mistakes are my own!

I'm on a roll! The first of the NaNo stories has been posted. "Breathing Like a Drowning Man" will come next, but I still want to tweak that one a bit and I haven't really had time to go back through it yet. Maybe next week.

I have now launched into my long story. As of tonight, I've written about a third of it. I was initially envisioning a novel length story, but I think I can bring this one in at more of a Big Bang length. I'm at 17,000 words so far, but that's before editing, and because of the speed with which I'm trying to write this, I anticipate cutting out quite a bit when I go back and tighten everything up.

Total NaNo word count: 31,213
Words until goal: 18,787

Title: Hot Belly
Rating: PG13
Warning: Set late season 2, after "Grace Under Pressure"
Word Count: 8,400
Summary: It's a jumper crash story! But mostly it's the team being all teamy together trying to get out of the crashed jumper.

A/N: When I can't fall asleep at night, I dream up stargate stories. I came up with this one and still remembered most of it the next day, so here it is! If I still remember a story after late night ponderings, it must be written! (The spacing got all weird on this when I posted, but I think I fixed most of it.)

Another story DONE! SGA NaNo story number two (a little jumper crash story, because I can never get enough of jumper crash stories) clocked in right around 8,500 words. I want to let it sit for a few days at the very least, and maybe get a bit ahead on my NaNo time schedule, before I go back and re-read/edit it. Obviously, it's not going to be anything that will blow your minds but I had fun with it.

This is great. I gotta say - I'm having all kinds of fun with this drive to write 50,000 words of SGA. I'm starting another shorter story tonight, even though I was going to jump into my longer story. I'm just not quite ready to do that yet. Maybe once I get this current little story knocked out (presently titled "Breathing Like a Drowning Man"), I'll be ready to focus on that longer one.

But just in case I'm not, I may come calling for prompts. I think I've got plenty of material to write 50,000 words, but I could get nervous about that and come looking for help later...
